Microsoft hopes the Surface Laptop 5 will live up to its five-year-old reputation as one of the greatest thin and light notebooks.
The Laptop 5, announced alongside the Surface Pro 9 and Studio 2+ all-in-one, is a conservative upgrade with new Intel processors and Thunderbolt 4 support in a laptop with the same design and displays as last year’s and the year before.
Even though nothing is new, the Surface Laptop 4 was wonderful, and an improved version seems good. Know this.
Surface Laptop 5 release date?
The Microsoft Laptop 5 was first shown off to the public on October 12, 2022, during the company’s annual hardware launch event. The laptop is now officially available for purchase, having been delivered to retailers on October 25.
Surface Laptop 5 price?
Since it comes in two sizes with varying features, the Surface Laptop 5 costs more than $999/£999.
The 13.5in model starts at $999/£999 and costs $1,699/£1,699 with an i7 processor, 16GB RAM, and 512GB storage.
The 15-inch model starts at $1,299/£1,299, but with an i7, 32GB RAM, and 1TB storage, it costs $2,399/£2,399.
Surface Laptop 5 design and specs?
Microsoft’s Laptop 5 is cautiously upgraded.
It resembles the Surface Laptop 3 and 4 and has 13.5in and 15in displays. Good and terrible design are the same. Both models have a thick display bezel while being compact and light.
New sage green colour is the largest design update. The 13.5-inch model has Sandstone and Sage, while the 15-inch model has Platinum or Matt Black. The Platinum 13.5in has Microsoft’s “Alcantara” fabric lining on the interior, unlike other colours or the bigger laptop.
Microsoft has maintained its display tech despite early rumours of a 120Hz refresh rate. Both laptops employ Microsoft’s LCD “PixelSense” touchscreens, with 2256 x 1504 in the smaller model and 2496 x 1664 in the bigger. Both have 201ppi. Dolby Vision IQ technology, previously reserved to the high-end Surface Laptop Studio, has been included, but refresh rate has not. Surface Pen, available separately, works with the screen.
